I debated posting this, as Steve was very nice and generous with his time, but the experience has stuck with me. I came seeking an adult ADHD assessment from a specialist, as my primary provider does not focus on this area. Steve arrived very late and the assessment felt chaotic and unclear whether a diagnosis was made. He ultimately advised me to try Vyvanse at a starting dosage that was much too high (a concern later confirmed by my psych). Additionally, his strong warning that I must stop coffee cold turkey upon starting the medication meant my first days of treatment were marked by caffeine withdrawal headaches. I've since found success with Adderall XR and safely drink coffee. Steve meant well, but his approach to assessment and initial medication guidance may not be the best fit for everyone.

TLDR; Steve is an incredibly gifted young specialist. He is caring beyond words, crazy responsive over text, super accountable, always went above and beyond to make things right for me when I had an issue, took my case to heart and truly cared about me getting my life back together. After he diagnosed me with Adult ADHD and we started medication, I went from bed-rotting for months to finishing more than half of my tasks (~100), in just a few weeks. Can't recommend him enough. I booked an appointment with Steve as a last resort, when my life was literally falling apart, and I absolutely had no hope that things would ever get better, but "I was ready for a change", somehow. I always suspected I had some sort of adult ADHD, but I never took it seriously enough to seek help before, and I never made the connection that ADHD might be causing my crippling depression. I've seen tens of mental health specialists in the past, and based on my horrific experience, I wasn't expecting much before the appointment. I have to be honest, I went with a MASSIVE bias that this was going to be a waste of time, thinking "how can a person half my age understand what I'm going through?", but the reviews looked good so I gave it a chance. To my surprise, Steve was THE FIRST mental health specialist who was genuinely interested in my story. He listened for hours patiently, made me feel comfortable enough to speak about my private life, asking all the right questions in between, tried to stitch pieces together to get a full picture and to understand the root cause of why I feel the way I feel. There were times where I thought what I was saying was not important, so I'd stop and say "that's probably not worth talking about", and he'd respond "no, I want to know it all!". I genuinely felt heard, and just those sessions, without medication, made me feel like I'm not permanently broken; that little beacon of hope gave me the strength to get out of bed and fight to get my life back. A few sessions later he diagnosed me with Adult ADHD and we started experimenting with different medications to find the best one for me. Steve followed up multiple times a day over text to check how I was doing. I've never experienced anything like this before; incredibly refreshing to have a person who is genuinely interested in solving your problems. It was like texting with a friend (who always writes with small caps, and makes frequent typos, so be warned if you're OCD about those; just focus on his brilliance instead 😀) After just 2 weeks of medication, I was a totally different person. I got out of bed. I tidied/cleaned/organized my room (which was absolutely chaos for months), finished all my laundry, and even cleaned the shared places, like the living room, kitchen, and toilets in the apartment that I share with 12 people, to a point where other tenants said they've never seen the kitchen this clean before... I started taking care of myself again. Started doing small 5 minute workouts, 5 minute yoga/meditation, my impulse control in general is significantly better, especially for ordering food and random stuff online. I noticed that I cut people off less while talking, and even if I do, I can remember where they were and say "you were saying XYZ", to bring the conversation back. I started cooking again (haven't for 2 years), organized all my tasks I neglected for many months, created a task management system that works for me, started losing weight, feeling better about myself after all these small wins (which immediately helped lifting the dark clouds of depression and gaining back self-confidence), and I even had a few job interviews in between, which is crazy to think comparing to where I was for the last few months. There are still many things to fix, and I still have ups and downs, but I'm slowly getting there. They say "the teacher appears when the student is ready"; I was ready, and Steve gave me the right tools and hope to start building back up again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Steve.
