When my son was in grade school, "homework wars" were a real problem. He was slow to catch on to reading, and he hated written homework. We sought help from teachers, optometrist, physicians, etc. Then one day, a counselor at school told me about research into tonic neck syndrome caused by not having gone through the crawling stages as a toddler. The program in Indianapolis was having results toward correcting the ADHD problems associated with it. I was desperate and I talked my husband into letting my Christmas present be taking my son to check out this program which required several trips from California to Indiana plus following the instructions for daily exercises at home. We did not always like getting down in the floor before school and doing those crawling exercises, but we did it. I did not see overnight results, and he still did not like to do homework, but he was fighting us less. Teachers acknowledged the problem and used innovative methods to read test questions to him, his comprehension improved, and his grades improved. He has completed a Master's Degree in Biology and now is almost 3/4 through med school to become an M.D., and we give Dr. O'Dell and those exercises that did not make a lot of sense to me at the time as having a large part in his successes in education. Of course, this is his mother speaking, but I think he has a great bedside manner and will make a great doc!
